Wilson and Michael Crichton 4.5/5The beginning of this (a novel wholly by Daniel H Wilson and I rather loathe this idea of presenting it as a Michael Crichton ~novel~ seeing as he's been dead for like a decade) reminded me of being 12 years old and reading books like THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN for the first time. The field scientists are told about their positions and ushered to a spot in the rainforest right outside of the quarantine zone for the anomaly.

50 years after the first Andromeda incident, an anomaly is found deep in the Amazon rainforest. My problem with the book was that it seemed stuck on the crisis-averted loop -- to the point that I just wanted it to end. They realize that Kline has created a space elevator. It is the sequel to Michael Crichton's The Andromeda Strain, published 50 years prior in 1969. The group starts off towards the anomaly (despite Kline’s constant disapproval), led by Sergeant Eduardo Brink and guided through the rainforest by natives.

It is the nineteenth and final novel under Crichton's name, and the fourth and final novel published after Crichton's death. With little genetic decay, Daniel Wilson replicates Michael Crichton’s tone and tics, particularly his wide-stance mansplaining.

However, overseer General Stone replaces Gordon with James Stone, the son of Jeremy Stone, based on a hunch. Eventually, you just stop jumping when the I'm giving 3* when I really feel in my black little heart that this was a 2* for me. Stone arrives late because he was added at the last minute, sparking tension between him and the leader, Vedala (who also does not believe he is qualified to be there). Tupa: A 10 year old boy, the sole survivor of an Amazonian tribe wiped out by the AS-3. “There is a category of event that, once it occurs, cannot be satisfactorily resolved.” And the pages — sanitized of wit — ar“The Andromeda Evolution” genuflects appropriately to "The Andromeda Strain," the 1969 novel that instantly infected pop culture. She does not feel as if she can trust the others with her new knowledge due to a pre-existing anxiety disorder. “There is a category of event that, once it occurs, cannot be satisfactorily resolved.” And the pages — sanitized of wit — are larded with lots of Crichtonian technical explanations, weapons porn, top-secret documents and so many acronyms that I began to worry Wilson had accidentally left the caps lock on. Peng Wu: A Chinese soldier and former taikonaut who suffers from an anxiety/panic disorder. The field scientists are alone, and begin studying the tribe members’ bodies. Vedala realizes that Stone has benign microparticles still in his lungs from his first infection, protecting him and making him immune from Andromeda. With little genetic decay, Daniel Wilson replicates Michael Crichton’s tone and tics, particularly his wide-stance mansplaining. I think this would have made an excellent thrill ride at an amusement park.

Wilson builds upon Crichton's original idea and puts together a plausible, equally terrifying reality around the Andromeda Strain's... abilities and purpose, let's say. So, he uses the Omega poison against her, stored in his pocket to keep away from Tupa. My problem with the book was that it seemed stuck on the crisis-averted loop -- to the point that I just wanted it to end. I was riveted, joyfully so. Published Michael Crichton is dead and was not involved in the writing of this book. In the darkness, a tribe attacks in a strangely violent manner. Surprisingly well-plotted sequel to Crichton's original; some pretty neat ideas here and a few nice surprises. We've got you covered with the buzziest new releases of the week. As they look around, they find a control hatch leading down under the Amazonian lake it had landed over. The ending veers a bit too close to the general plot of THE EXPANSE for me and gets a little too crazy, although I suppose faxing people between dimensions in TIMELINE was also pretty crazy -- anyway, I found it faltered a bit on the landing, but good god I loved the adventure getting there.

Enjoyable, some parts a bit too technical and far-fetched, but overall, I'm glad I read it.I'm not disappointed with this read.

A good mix of science, action, wonder and horror. Stone uses a translation device to converse with the boy, who reveals that his name is Tupa. The plot was weak and the characters were undeveloped. The other two astronauts put Vedala on morphine, yet someone still needs to sever Kline’s ribbon to finally stop her plan. And I was right! Stone tries to help Odhiambo, who is older, but eventually it becomes worthless. We learn that in the decades since, the Andromeda Strain has evolved, mutated, and is replicating. Meanwhile, Kline locks up her fellow astronauts and begins working against the Andromeda, a long awaited plan.
